The Lost Vocals: 3 Weeks to Finish the Album

In my basement studio…

I’ve spent the last three years in a “stalemate” with my own voice.

I built a studio in my basement to learn how to sing without judgment, but I ended up becoming my own harshest critic. Every time I recorded a take, I’d find a reason to bury it—overanalyzing every breath and frequency until the spark was gone. I have a folder of “vocal seeds” that have been waiting for me to get out of my own way.

This February, the loop ends.

The Catalyst: The RPM Challenge

For those who don’t know, the RPM Challenge is a global creative marathon: record an original album in the month of February. No excuses, no extensions.

I’m using this year’s challenge to force a total shift in how I create. And there’s an unexpected twist that makes the ‘stakes’ even higher. Because of a trip to Vegas in the middle of the month, my February will be split into two intense sprints totaling just 21 days.

I have to build a world around these vocals before the clock runs out. No more hiding behind the process. Just 21 days of music production.

The Visual Engine

I’ve spent the last few months building a performance environment that bridges the gap between the music and the visuals.

As I work, you’ll be able to see the “architecture” of the songs being built. I’ve designed a layout that layers my DAW and a live camera feed with a custom 3D landscape. The raw waveforms of my voice and the data from my gear drive that landscape in real-time—reacting to every sound I make. Using hand-tracking, I’ll be sculpting digital elements over my physical movements, turning standard production sessions into a reactive visual world.

The Mission

This project is about proving that a finished, human project is worth more than a “flawless” one that never sees the light of day. I have to be fast, I have to be bold, and I have to trust my gut.

While You Wait…

If you want to hear what the “finished” side of my work sounds like, you can check out my latest studio album, Dark Matter, as well as my other albums available now on the site. It’s the result of the systems I built before I let perfectionism get in the way.

Join the Journey

I’ll be capturing the entire process as I race against the clock. Since the production schedule will be tight and unpredictable, signing up here is the only way to stay in the loop.

On March 1st, I’ll send you:

  • The Finished Album: A link to download the final result of the sprint.
  • The Session Vault: Access to an exclusive, unlisted page featuring the full stream archives and highlights so you can see how the world was built.
  • The Custom Sample Pack: Later in March, I’ll send out a collection of the unique sounds and textures created during the project as a thank you for following along.
